Hi @deanastan,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It seems like you're facing an issue with your HP Envy Pro 6400 printer prompting you to optimize before printing. To help you troubleshoot, here are some general steps you can follow:
Check for Software Updates: Ensure that your printer software and drivers are up to date. Visit the official HP website and download the latest drivers and software for your HP Envy Pro 6400. Click Here
Restart Your Printer: Turn off your printer, wait for a few seconds, and then turn it back on. This simple step can often resolve temporary glitches.
Restart Your Computer: If the issue persists, try restarting your computer. Sometimes, problems can be related to the computer's connection with the printer.
Check for Paper Jams: Open the printer cover and check for any paper jams or obstructions. Clear any paper jams carefully.
Verify Connection: Ensure that your printer is properly connected to your computer. If it's a wireless connection, check the Wi-Fi settings on both the printer and your computer.
Run Print Troubleshooter: Most operating systems have built-in print troubleshooters. Run the troubleshooter on your computer to identify and fix any printing issues.
Optimize Print Settings: When you try to print, check the print settings to make sure they are appropriate for your document. Avoid using excessive print quality or unnecessary features.
Check for Ink or Toner Levels: Ensure that your printer has sufficient ink or toner. Low levels may affect print quality and prompt optimization messages.
Reset Printer Settings: In the printer settings or control panel, look for an option to reset the printer to default settings. This can sometimes resolve configuration issues.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

My husband actually printed something from his computer to it! Yay! However I'm having trouble doing it from my phone. I have the Hp app on it and have never had a problem. We just moved and wonder if that's an issue. It says it's online. My Bluetooth is on, wifi is on etc.

Hi @deanastan,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for your response, I will be glad to help you.
I see the issue still persists with the phone. May I know if the wifi network is private or shared?
May I know what is the wifi light status on the printer?
In the meantime, Please try the steps mentioned below.
let's try a network reset:
1. Disconnect the power cord from the router.
2. Turn off the printer.
3. Turn off the mobile device/PC.
4. Reconnect the power cord to the router, then wait for the Internet activity light to display a normal connected status.
5. Turn on the printer.
6. Turn on the mobile device/PC.
Once done,
Could you please try these steps to connect the printer to the network (in case of dual-band routers, please use the 2.4 Ghz wireless connection for the printer):
- Remove HP Smart App from your mobile device (if already installed).
- Download and install HP Smart App on your mobile device from the app store.
- To restore network settings to default settings:
- Press and hold Wireless button on the back of the printer for at least three seconds.
- Then the printer enters the Auto Wireless Connect (AWC) setup mode. It keeps searching and waiting for the HP Smart app to connect within about two hours, and then stops searching.
- Open HP Smart App and follow the onscreen instructions on the screen to connect the printer to a wireless network.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
