Deskjet 2600
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I have text files that I want to print using the builtin fonts in the printer i.e. not using raster output as the Windows drivers do.  I have written a program that opens the printer port and sends PCL3GUI commands to the printer, followed by the file text and then some more commands. This works well on my elderly Photosmart 2750 printer, but on my new Deskjet 2633 the power light blinks and no output is produced.  I modelled the commands on what is sent to a file if I select 'Print to a file' when printing from Notepad, but skip all the raster graphics bits. Are there differences in the PCL3GUI implementation on these printers? Does the Deskjet even support character printing at all?

In both cases the program opens and writes to LPT2: and I have mapped this to the printer port using

    NET USE LPT2: \\XXXXXX\YYYY

where

XXXXXX is the name of my computer

YYYY is the share name of the printer

Correction: the old printer on which my program works correctly is the Photosmart 2575, not 2750 as stated above.
