Just purchased Envy 6420e which has capability of automatic duplex printing.  Installed the HP smart App from the QR code on the set up guide on my Samsung Android phone, but will not print duplex and the option to change is not on the App.   Is there a different (special) App for Androids?  A friend has same printer but Apple phone and no problem.   Can anyone help?

I understand you are trying to print duplex (double-sided) on your HP ENVY 6420e from your Android phone, you'll want to ensure that your settings in the HP Smart app are configured correctly. If the duplex printing option is missing or not working, here are a few steps to try:

 

Check Printer Settings in the HP Smart App: HP printer setup (HP Smart app)

  • Open the HP Smart app on your Android phone.
  • Select your printer and tap Print Documents or Print Photos.
  • In the print settings, you should see options like "Print on both sides" or "Duplex Printing" if your printer supports it. If it’s not visible, make sure you are using the correct app settings.

Update the HP Smart App and Printer Firmware: Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Ensure that both your HP Smart app and printer firmware are up-to-date. You can check for app updates in the Google Play Store and printer firmware updates through the HP Smart app.

Use Google Cloud Print or Direct Printing:

  • If the option is still not available in the HP Smart app, you can try printing via Google Cloud Print, or directly from a document viewer like Google Docs, which may provide additional printing options, including duplex printing.

Check Printer Settings via a Web Browser (if applicable): Use the HP printer Embedded Web Server (EWS)

  • Open a web browser and enter the printer’s IP address (found in the printer settings menu) to access its embedded web server. Look for duplex settings that might need to be enabled.

If none of these steps work, it's possible that certain printing features, like duplex, may only be accessible through specific apps or settings in the iOS version of the HP Smart app. Let me know if you need further assistance!

Hi thanks for taking the time to reply. I have actually communicated HP Support via WhatsApp, they were brilliant and guided me step by step to resolve the problem (included downloading a couple of programs via my laptop).  I'm not very tech minded but they were very patient (because it took a while) and I am now able to print duplex automatically from my phone (and laptop if I wish)
