HP ENVY 4520 All-in-One Printer

I recently received email messages from HP Instant Ink with the subject “Action Needed: Printer Connection Lost” after replacing my WiFi router with a new router. It seems that my ENVY 4520 printer is unable to connect to the HP Instant Ink website after installation of the new WiFi router. However, the HP Smart app running on my iOS device is able to access the printer. And computing devices connected to the home WiFi network are able to access the printer for obtaining printing services. Hence, the printer is connected to the home WiFi network. The new WiFi router has the same SSID and password as the previous router. Why is the printer unable to connect to the HP Instant Ink website? How can I check whether the printer is connected to the Internet? Thanks very much.

Hi @SunilS,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to assist you.

I see that you are facing an issue with connecting your Printer to the network.

Please follow the steps below to connect your printer to the network again as the router or service provider was changed.

1) Uninstall the HP smart app by click on this link, Restart the computer or mobile device to clear possible error conditions.

2) Enable Wi-Fi setup mode: When you turn on your printer for the first time, it is temporarily placed in Wi-Fi setup mode so that it can be discovered during setup. Use the printer control panel to restore Wi-Fi setup mode, and then set up the printer again. Go to Restore Wi-Fi setup mode on your HP printer for more information.

3) Refer to this link to use the HP smart app on your phone/tablet/PC to add a printer.

Note: Enable Bluetooth for an HP Smart app setup: Enable Bluetooth on your computer or mobile device so that HP Smart can detect the printer during the setup.

Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a great day ahead!

The reason why my printer was unable to connect to the HP Instant Ink server was an inability of the printer to access the DNS, per “web access test report” which showed that DNS access failed. I fixed this issue by altering the DNS via the printer EWS from manual to automatic. I also disabled and then re-enabled web services via the printer EWS, although these steps might not have been necessary to fix the problem. Now, the printer is able to access the HP Instant Ink server and vice versa.
