I myself have installed this printer and I cannot remember for the life of me setting up a username and password when I installed the HP Smart Windows App. I am very consistent with my usernames and passwords, so I have tried all possible combinations and none worked. So, I read a bunch of threads on the forum and tried accessing EWS through browser and printer IP to change security settings but again I was asked for a username and password.

So, I have restored the printer to its default settings but it did not work. I removed it from my notebook, uninstalled the HP Smart app, tried restoring the printer again and it availed not.

Last, I restored the Network Settings specifically on the printer's display panel and it stated I would be resetting the EWS settings, this sounded like it would solve the problem. I got the wifi working again through WPS but when I closed and opened again both HP Smart and EWS page I was again asked for a username and password I have no clue about and virtually every feature is still locked. I basically cannot use my printer if I do not get up and walk to it, not to mention every adds made to facilitate use are rendered useless.

I have checked the user's manual but it was of no help at all.

What do am I missing here? How do I really restore/reset the printer to its default and get the HP Smart / EWS features unlocked when even accepting the warning I would be resetting EWS settings and clicking "of" does not work out? There must be a solution to this, I am sure.

Hi,

Try following the 'To restore the printer to the original factory defaults' section of its user guide, on page 141:

Thank you so much for your attention to this.

I have already tried it. Actually, I have tried all the restoring options:  selecting each function one by one, then selecting restore connection settings, and then selecting a full restore. I had to register the printer again, got a new code, a new e-mail for HPeprint etc... But HP Smart itself keeps asking for a username and password no matter what and none of the "default" ones works.

Someone here in the forum got the solution for that but it was a private message since "it was specific for this model". I only know they reply it worked.
