HP OfficeJet Pro 8725 All-in-One Printer

MacBook Pro running MacOS 14.3.1 Sonoma.  HP Office Jet Pro 8725.  Using the currently available EZ Scan software from the Apple App Store.  I have used this printer and MacBook with the then current Mac OS and the EZ Scan software since about 2020 without problem.

I was literally doing a series of routine scans without incident when a got a msg "HP Easy Scan quit unexpectedly."   Since then after scanning a document I get the HP Easy Scan quit unexpectedly" msg. when I select  either "Edit" or "Send to" and "desktop;" however, if I select  "Send to" and "print," the scanned image(s) print(s) perfectly.

I recently updated the Mac OS, but used 14.3.1 without incident for several days before EZ Scan software stopped working.

I have deleted and reinstalled EZ Scan from the Apple App Store multiple times with identical results.

I dealt with several HP support people.  None of them were able to help with the issue.

I then dealt with a seemingly knowledgeable Apple support person who, after about 40 minutes of screen sharing,  took the position that the issue is with the HP software.  He did, however, identify a clumsy workaround  that works, but is very inefficient compared to EZ Scan.

What was a key productivity tool is now a time-consuming bottleneck.
