About two weeks ago I found my printer off and the only way to restart it was to unplug for 60
seconds. The next day...same thing. Upon researching I found an energy setting called “Shut Down After” and my printer only has 3 options; 2 hours, 4 hours, 8 hours. That’s it. There is no option to turn it off. I still don’t think that explains why the power button doesn’t work to restart the machine. But, the bigger issue is with only these options, there is no way to stop my printer from shutting off every night. I wouldn’t mind if it went into a sleep mode, but I absolutely mind that at least once I day I am forced to unplug the machine in order to print. And I don’t think it’s coincidental that this just started happening two weeks ago, out of the blue. HP must have done an update. Any creative thoughts welcome!

@ChristieAnne, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
I understand your concern. However, Sleep mode cannot be disabled, although on some printers you can change the inactive time before the printer enters sleep mode.
Sleep mode automatically puts the printer into a lower-power state after a set period of time of non-use. The printer returns to its normal power state when you send another print or scan job.
A printer in sleep mode might display some of the following characteristics:
-
The control panel display is dark
-
The power light is slowly pulsing
-
The power light is dim
Auto-Off, sometimes called Power Save Mode, turns the printer completely off after a set period of time (usually two hours). You must press the power button to turn the printer back on.
