A message appears when sending a test Email that the attempt has failed !

This is more complicated than on other printers I have set-up the same "Scan to

Email". The set-up offers many more options than appear on other printers.

Hopefully there is someone in the Forum with experience with this "super duper"

printer.

Which firmware do you have installed, FS3 or FS4. The process is very straight forward either way, but FS4 offers much better configuration options. You will need the settings for your mail provider, that being an SMTP server name or IP address, a valid account and password for the SMTP serverThe first step is to input your SMTP server settings,  be sure to enable SSL. Depending on your mail server you may need to enter credentials. This would be a user name and password of a valid mail user.  Once you have input the SMTP settings you will be given the option to test the settings. On the main page, input a default email address and default subject if you want one.  The most common issue is a "no SMTP server found" error which is usually caused by bad DNS settings in the network section of the printer.

Hi Repairatrooper -

Had never upgraded the firmware. I am using FS3.

I have been at this for nearly 20 years, but obviously have a lot to learn!

OK Have downloaded the January update, expanded it and have a BDL file - -

How do I use that file to upgrade my firmware?

Maybe  it is dangerous to let me use a keyboard!!

Repairatrooper,

Just a detail - at the very end of the "Scan to Email" set-up, when the send test Email is sent,

the printer tries to do it.  After a couple of seconds, the screen 'blinks' and repeats. This goes on

for three tries and then the printers says it failed.

Hi, when I did configure the scan to mail on my x585, I could not pass the test.... looking over the internet, I did found that the e-mail service must accept "Access for unsafe applications" (as called on the gmail service), could be called different from other email services.

After activated it, then I can use my gmail account for sending email from the printer.

If you are using a gmail account, it is located on account settings, then Secutiry

I think it could make your gmail account less secure.

In this post you can see how to setup a gmail account for using your "scan to mail" and without activating the access for unsafe applications:

I dont know if this is your only problem, but you can start here.

I have not tested it.
