HP LaserJet Pro MFP M148fdw
macOS 12.0 Monterey

Trying to print a #10 envelope on my LaserJet Pro M148fdw, without success. I've double-checked all the set-up issues, but my envelopes keep printing upside down (with flap at the bottom), with two inches of extra white space above the return address, so the outgoing address falls off the bottom of the envelope.

To date, I've reset the printer, restarted my iMac (running Sonoma 14.2.1), updated the printer firmware, and started with a brand new Word document (rather than my old "envelopes" file, in case that was corrupted.  I have a hunch this is a simple error, but I can't for the life of me figure it out. Does this make sense to anyone?

Hi @WriterGuyUCR,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you've covered many troubleshooting steps already. To address the issue with your LaserJet Pro M148fdw printing envelopes upside down with extra white space, here are some additional suggestions.

Check Printer Settings:

  • Make sure your printer settings match the envelope size and orientation. Check that the correct paper size (envelope #10) is selected in both your printer settings and Word document settings.

Page Setup in Word:

  • Open your Word document and go to the "Layout" or "Page Layout" tab.
  • Click on "Size" and ensure that the paper size is set to "Envelope #10."
  • Check the orientation settings (Portrait or Landscape) and make sure it matches your envelope's orientation.

Print Preview:

  • Use the Print Preview feature in Word to see how the document will appear before printing. It can help you identify any layout issues.

Printer Properties:

  • Access the printer properties on your computer.
  • Ensure that the paper type is set to "Envelope" or a similar setting that matches your envelope type.
  • Check for any advanced settings related to envelope printing.

Manual Feed Tray:

  • Some printers have a manual feed tray specifically designed for envelopes. Ensure that you are using the correct tray for envelope printing.

Driver Reinstallation:

  • Uninstall the printer driver on your computer and reinstall it. Make sure you download the latest driver from the official HP website.

Print from Another Device:

  • If possible, try printing the envelope from another device to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if the problem is specific to your iMac.

By carefully reviewing these settings and steps, you should be able to identify and resolve the issue with your envelope printing.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
