HP ENVY 4520 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My computer will not load drivers for the HP Envy 4520. It worked flawlessly up until about a month ago (estimate) then it wouldn't print and showed drivers were not installed. When I follow the steps of renaming the C:Windows:System32:spool:drivers:W32X86:3 and C:Windows:System32:spool:drivers:x64:3 to 3.old it yields the same error.

I can install the drivers on HP site but then it says "There is a better solution" and wants me to run HP Smart. I run HP Smart and it says "Sorry, we don't support this device or Operating System." I'm running the same OS the computer has always run (Windows 10 [latest]). Does HP simply not support this series printer any more or is it a computer issue? I can print from other HP Smart apps on my phone but not from the HP computer (would be funny if I weren't so annoyed).

Any advice would be great. Thank you.

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help.

Let's try to do a root uninstall and reinstall of the software:

Unplug any USB cable, if any, before doing this.

1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features

2.) Select your HP Printer

3.) Select Uninstall

4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers

5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose 'Delete' or 'Remove Device'

6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)

8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab

9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom

10.) Select Ok

11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows

12.) Close Devices and Printers

13.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo

14.) Type c:/programdata and click Ok. Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.

15.) Restart the computer.

Once done, please download and install the software from here:

Apologies on the delayed response.

The steps posted at 0544 on 10 June 2022 have corrected the issue.

I'm not sure what happened or how, but the uninstallation provided appears to have resolved the issue. I was able to reinstall the printer and drivers successfully.

Thank you.
