So I've had this printer for around 6 months. Its been a bit of a mare to be fair, constantly going "offline", losing connection, "error printing" but now it has given up the ability to scan to my laptop directly from the printer using the touchscreen. Previously, I just pressed scan, selected the device I wanted to scan to and voila ! Now I get a pop-up advising me to visit 123.hp.com and install software !!! Aaaaaarrrrrrrgggggggggghhhhhhhhhhh !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It will scan from within the HP Smart app, but this is no good to me, I want to be able to stand at the side of the printer and scan a load of stuff into my laptop at the touch of a screen !!!
When I go to 123.hp.com to install the software its telling me I need, it only gives me the option to install the HP Smart App ............................ which is already installed !!!! Brilliant !! I'm on Windows 10 64bit by the way.

Hi @ScottP28
Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you.
As I understand, you are referring to 'Scan to computer' option on the printer screen. This requires HP's full-featured driver to be installed on the PC. Let us try these steps:
Click here to download the HP Full-featured driver.
Once downloaded, make sure to run the file to start the installation and follow the on-screen instructions.
Enable 'Scan to computer' option
- Search Windows for 'HP Envy 5020' > Open HP printer assistant software
- Go to Scan > Manage scan to computer > Enable the option.
- Try scanning from the printer screen.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
Please click “Accept as Solution” if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution.
