HP ENVY 5540
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I had to reinstall all products due to reset of PC. I'm obviously missing something.

Now I cannot print color photos.   I open a photo and select to print it.  The Print dialog displays.  I select Landscape, Paper -> Photo Tray, Paper size of 4.00" X 6:00", Paper type of PH Photo Papers, Photo size of 3.5 x 5 in, Normal margins, Shrink to Fit.   When I try to print I  get "paper type was changed from HP Photo Papers back to plain paper because of conflict with another printer setting" ??? I don't know what to change.   I actually got it to print (don't know what I did ) but it was black and white.

I then reset everything  back as above and clicked on More settings... .  Immediately saw that the paper type had changed back to plain paper.  In output options I set color mode to Color instead of Monochrome and change paper type to HP Photo. Clicked ok.  Paper type is again Plain Paper.  Selected More settings again and color mode was back to Monochorme.   I'm going in circles and I don't know what to do.

@lilunn283, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Use the HP Smart app to print and scan from your Win 10 PC(Wireless connectivity)

Click here to download and know more about the app.

If you need the full-featured driver, perform a clean reinstallation of pre-installed HP drivers

  1.  In Windows, search for and open Programs and features
  2.  Select your HP Printer
  3.  Select Uninstall
  4.  In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers
  5.  In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose ‘Delete’ or ‘Remove Device’
  6.  Open up the run command with the “Windows key + R” key combo.
  7.  Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)
  8.  Click on the “Drivers” tab
  9.  Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom
  10.  Select Ok
  11.  Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows
  12.  Close Devices and Printers, restart the computer.

Click here to download the HP Full-featured driver.

Once downloaded, make sure to run the file to start the installation and follow the on-screen instructions.

Try printing.

I have a problem installing by connecting with WIFI.   My printer is never recognized by setup.   My solution has been to connect using USB cable (since my initial post).  With that connection everything is working fine and I have no problems.    I had to reset my PC recently which means reinstalling everything.  Before the reset I was able to connect from printer to PC using WIFI. I could print, scan, etc.   But I have not been able to reinstall using WIFI connection and get all the functionality I had before.  Since I have no problem printing from my smart phone via WIFI I can live with it.  Just personal stuff.

To troubleshoot wireless connectivity issues:

On the printer screen, go to Setup > Network Setup > Restore network settings

Go back to Network > Wireless > Wireless setup wizard and select your network.

  • Make sure the printer and the PC are connected to the same wireless network.
  • This printer supports only 2.4GHz network. So, the PC should be on the 2.4GHz network.
  • If you have a Dual-band router and both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks share the same name/SSID, the printer will not be able to connect to the network. In this case, contact your Internet service provider to assign different names to both the networks.

Let me know how this goes.
