HP Envy 5640
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am attempting to print on my installed HP Envy 5640. It has previosly worked and my wife can print ok from her laptop. The printer is serviceable and shows a good connection/signal strength on my network.   I have been through the  "Troubleshoot HP Installation Failure" software and did not get anywhere. It was unable to detect the name of the SSID however though it was connected to it. I previously had to reinstall Windows 10 and it detected and installed the printer during setup but it used the Microsoft printer drivers. Thje setup was ok at that time and printed ok. It was when I tried to install the HP drivers that the problems started.

Greetings!

Welcome to the HP Community. This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips to your technical queries. I have reviewed your post and I understand, there's an issue while printing from your Windows 10 PC.

Appreciate you trying the steps. Don't worry, I'm here to help!

Let's try these steps -

Step 1 HP Print and Scan Doctor -

Click on this link to download and run HP Print and Scan Doctor.

Step 2 Re-install the printer drivers -

1) In the search box, type and open "Uninstall a Program".
2) Look for HP Printer software.
3) Right-click to uninstall.
4) In the search box, type and open “Devices and printers”.
5) In the Devices and Printers, look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose “Delete” or “Remove Device”.
6) Open the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.
7) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”).
8) Click on the "Drivers" tab.
9) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click “Remove” at the bottom.
10) Select Ok.
11) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows.
12) Close Devices and Printers Once the software and drivers are removed.
13) Restart the computer.
14) Download and install the software and drivers from here.

Let me know how that goes.

Thank you Asmit. I had previously done much of what you suggested and more. I was rapidly reaching the end of my ideas. I hadn't tried it though on USB and when I did, it worked. I looked at the ports it was using and c hanged one or two settings and, to my surprise it suddenly started working by wireless. To my regret, I can't remember exactly what I did and I'm reluctant to backtrack now that it's working so I've decided to leave things as they are.  Many thanks for your input though and I'll keep the suggestions you sent 'just in case'.because I'll probably nnot be so lucky next time.  Once again -- Thanks.
