On my Envy 5660, the Printer Tray selection option from Preferences is grayed out, cannot be selected. Both trays have paper, regular HP paper and HP 4x6 photo paper. From print dialog windows on my Big Sur Mac I can select "Print from Photo Tray" but regardless, it always prints on plain paper from the main tray. I have tried everything I can find on the Internet - all updates, unplugging the printer for 10 minutes, looked at every option, used any HP software I can find, logged in to the printer directly from its IP address on our router, I am totally stumped. This used to work. Haven't printed a photo on this printer in a long time. Next step is throw printer out window and buy an Epson. Thank you.

@BDLL, Welcome to the HP Support Community! I’m here to help.

I see that you are not able to print photos. I appreciate your efforts in trying to resolve this issue by performing the necessary troubleshooting steps.

As all the necessary steps have been tried, let us perform a factory reset on the printer.

  • The reset instructions are specific for your printer and performing those steps on a different printer may corrupt the device.
  • I've sent you a private message with reset instructions, follow the reset instruction to perform a full reset and re-initialize the printer.
  • In order to access your private messages, click the private message icon on the upper right corner of your HP community profile, next to your profile Name or simply click on this link: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/notes/privatenotespage

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Well, after trying the privately sent solution, which did not work, I was referred to HP Technical Support. One of the support options are continue to scour HP and other web sites for solutions, including this community forum, and, buy phone support, which would be more expensive than buying another printer, HP or some other vendor, although even phone support for this printer is not available. In other words - for printing photos, the printer is now junk. I.e., it's a cheap commodity, when it breaks and can't be repaired or would be convoluted and expensive, throw it out and buy a new one. I'm glad David Packard and Bill Hewlett aren't alive to see this.

@BDLL

If you are having difficulty reaching the HP Support team, it means the printer is out of warranty. In this case, yes, there will be no free phone support options available.

I suggest you upgrade the printer. You may visit Hp Store to check the available printers.

Keep me posted for any other assistance.
