SET UP INCOMPLETE - Issue

Surely I'm not the only one with this issue, I've set the Printer up and turned it off but I am constantly reconnecting it to our internet.

It comes up with 'set up incomplete' but nothing on this rubbish portal offers help, i have called through to help and have been hung up on twice once with out even saying anything. It feels like I'm going round and round with he same solutions but noting tangible is given for me to do.

My internet is fine and the other devices are connected no issues, I'm going mad and this might be my last HP if I cant resolve it.

I have been able to print off the reems of reports and logs but cant print off the one doc i need for a meeting, not happy.

Hi @Dan6354,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand how frustrating this is, especially when you’ve done everything right and still see “Setup Incomplete”. Let’s break this down and get your HP Envy 6120e working reliably:

Why This Happens

The “Setup Incomplete” message usually means:

  • The printer hasn’t finished HP+ activation or account linking.
  • The wireless setup didn’t fully register with the HP app.
  • Firmware or network handshake failed during initial setup.

Steps to Fix It

1. Confirm HP Smart Account & HP+ Activation

  • Open the HP app on your phone or PC.
  • Sign in with your HP account.
  • Check if the printer shows “Setup Complete” under devices.
  • If not, tap the printer → Complete Setup.

2. Restore Network Settings

  • On the printer, go to Settings → Network → Restore Network Defaults.
  • Reconnect to Wi-Fi using the Wireless Setup Wizard.
  • Make sure the printer and your device are on the same network (avoid guest Wi-Fi).

3. Update Firmware

  • In HP App, go to Printer Settings → Advanced Settings → Printer Update.
  • If Advanced Settings is grayed out, complete HP+ activation first.

4. Disable VPN / Firewall Temporarily

  • The HP app needs a clear connection to HP servers.
  • Turn off VPN or firewall during setup.

5. Print a Network Configuration Page

  • Check signal strength and IP address.
  • If IP is missing or shows “Disconnected,” reconnect Wi-Fi.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
