Envy 6120e set up stuck

Bought a 6120e. Trying to set up. Screen on printer stuck at QR code. QR code takes me to HP App on phone. HP app wants to login to network. Which network, mine or the printers? Try the printer's - wants password for DIRECT -DD-HP envy series 6100. But I don't have the password. Installed HP app on iMac. iMac can see printer but print jobs don't go through  - it says printer off line, presumably because printer stuck at QR code. Been at it all day - no idea what to do next. No solution? take printer back to vendor and get refund because product not fit for purpose. Over to you HP.

1. You may need to open paper tray and load paper then follow instructions on printer screen,
