Hello,

I have an issue with an Envy 6132e printer. Having worked fine for months it started getting stuck saying "Printing xxxxx Page 1 of...." on the printer, with a blue loading bar constantly going across. If I tried to press the cancel button it would ask to confirm cancelling but then the display just stayed on that cancel button and didn't actually cancel the job. I am not aware of any changes in settings or software at the time this started happening. It did show on the printer the document name so it clearly had a network connection and it did the same thing when trying to use the copy function (so not relying on communication with the pc).

Having tried hard resets, updating drivers, resetting network settings and following the guidance of the virtual help I tried clearing the print queue by stopping the print spooler and deleting the documents manually in the queue. After that when sending any document to print I have instead had an error message from HP Universal Print saying "Unable to print. Rendering failed. Please check if the printer driver is up to date and configured correctly".

Any suggestions as to what else I can try?

Thanks.3cf70dfa-5527-4901-98c5-e18fc6fb6903.jpg

Hi @Spud_14,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Your description and the image tell me exactly what’s happening: Your HP Envy 6132e is locking up inside the print engine itself, not just during network printing. The fact that means the printer’s internal firmware print pipeline is stuck or corrupted, not just your computer or driver. Let’s fix yours step‑by‑step.

Step 1: Do a Full Power Drain Reset (not a normal restart)

This clears the internal print controller, which is what is stuck.

  1. Turn the printer off
  2. Unplug the power cable from the back of the printer
  3. Unplug it from the wall
  4. Wait 1 full minute
  5. Press and hold the Power button for 15 seconds (discharges internal capacitors)
  6. Plug everything back in and turn it on

Try copying again. If the copy still freezes, continue.

Step 2: Remove and Re‑Add the Printer in Windows

  1. Open Settings → Bluetooth & Devices → Printers & Scanners
  2. Click your HP Envy 6132e
  3. Select Remove device
  4. Restart your PC
  5. Click Add device
  6. Add the printer again

Stop here and test printing. If you still see “Rendering failed,” go on.

Step 3: Update Windows Fully

  1. Open Windows Update
  2. Tap Check for updates
  3. Install EVERYTHING
  4. Restart your PC

Try printing again.

Step 4: Clear the Windows Spooler (You already did part of this, but let's complete the full HP/Microsoft procedure)

Because rendering failed, the spooler pipeline may still contain corrupted metadata.

  1. Press Windows + R
  2. Type services.msc
  3. Right‑click Print Spooler → Stop
  4. Go to: C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS
(Delete all files inside this folder)
  5. Go back to Print Spooler → Start
  6. Restart PC

Now try printing a one‑page test.

If printing still freezes or the printer itself gets stuck, the problem is inside the firmware, not your computer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Thank you for the helpful instructions.

Sadly having followed all these steps I am stuck back with the blue bar again so presuming it must be a firmware issue on the printer.
