My Envy 7640 can no longer duplex from Macbook Pro and iPhone 17. No Options tab either. Have deleted and reinstalled on the Macbook but it always says Airprint and there's no option for the HP driver.

Hi @AuntClaire,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

This happens because macOS and iOS default to AirPrint, which doesn’t expose HP’s full driver features like duplex (two‑sided) printing. That’s why you don’t see the “Options” tab and can’t force duplexing, even after reinstalling.

Install HP Easy Start Driver (MacBook Pro)

Go to HP’s support site and download HP Easy Start for the Envy 7640.

Run it, and when prompted, choose the HP driver (not AirPrint).

After installation, re‑add the printer in System Settings > Printers & Scanners.

You should now see duplex options under “Layout” or “Two‑Sided.”

Force HP Driver Use

When adding the printer, click Use: HP Envy 7640 Series instead of “AirPrint.”

If only AirPrint shows, the HP driver isn’t installed correctly; repeat step 1.

iPhone Duplex Printing

iOS only supports duplex if the printer advertises it via AirPrint.

Once the HP driver is installed on your Mac, use HP Smart app on iPhone to print.

HP Smart exposes duplex options that AirPrint alone does not.

Firmware Update

Kindly refer to this link to update your printer firmware.

I hope this helps

Take care and have an amazing day ahead! 🚀
