I am unable to complete setup of the printer, HP Smart comes back with error: Driver unavailable. Printer status info shows Installation: not installed.

Latest version of HP Smart, computer OS was Windows 10 initially now latest version Windows 11.

HP Smart unable to find driver files, apparently no compatible driver files available on HP support pages ?

I believe this is a known issue - is there a fix yet ?

Hi @richard1181,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

The "Driver unavailable" error is a common issue that has been reported for various HP printers, including the HP Envy 7924e, especially after upgrading to a newer version of Windows. Here are several steps you can take to resolve the driver unavailability issue:

Verify System Requirements:

  • Ensure your computer meets the system requirements for the printer and has the latest updates for Windows 11 installed.

Reinstall HP App:

Install HP Universal Print Driver:

  • Download and install the HP Universal Print Driver from the HP website. It can sometimes provide compatibility when specific drivers are unavailable.

Manual Driver Installation:

  • Go to https://support.hp.com/us-en
  • Enter your printer's model number and select your operating system.
  • Download the full feature software and driver setup file or the basic driver and install it manually.

Windows Update:

  • Go to Windows Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update, and check for any pending updates that need to be installed.

Firmware Update:

  • Make sure your printer's firmware is updated to the latest version.
  • You can check this from the printer's control panel or the HP support site.

Use Add Printer Wizard:

  • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  • Select "Add a printer" and let Windows search for your printer. If found, let it proceed with installing the default driver.

    I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
