Just purchased a 7900e Envy Inspire and can't get it to work. I think I may have 2 HP accounts (one for US and one for Germany) and maybe that's an issue. Regardless, I am connected to my wifi. I keep getting two error messages:  one says to complete setup and everytime I try to do that, I can go past clicking on the model number that shows being on the network. Nothing happens. I also keep getting and an out of paper message or check the photo tray. I'm not out of paper. There doesn't appear to be a jam and the photo tray appears to be doing fine. Help. Getting ready to pack this puppy up and send it back to you. Would rather it just work. thanks.

Hi @JF20252025

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble with your new HP Envy Inspire 7900e printer. Let's go through a few troubleshooting steps to resolve both the setup and paper error issues. It sounds like there might be a combination of setup and configuration problems, possibly related to multiple HP accounts and the printer's settings. Here are some suggestions:

1. Check Your HP Accounts

  • If you have two HP accounts, it could be confusing the setup process. Make sure you're using the correct one. You can try signing out of all HP-related apps or websites and signing back in with the correct account that matches your printer’s region and setup.
    • Go to the HP Smart app or HP website and log out of all accounts. Then, sign in using your main account for the region where the printer was purchased.
  • HP Smart app: If you haven’t already, try downloading the HP Smart app (available for both mobile and desktop) and follow the setup process from there. It usually helps streamline the setup.

2. Complete the Printer Setup

  • Make sure your printer is connected to your Wi-Fi network. If the printer is showing as connected to Wi-Fi but you're still stuck at the "complete setup" screen, try these steps:
    1. Restart the Printer: Turn off the printer, wait a few seconds, and turn it back on. This can help reset any temporary issues.
    2. Reconnect to Wi-Fi: On the printer's screen, go to the Wi-Fi settings and disconnect from the network. Then, reconnect it again by selecting the network and entering the Wi-Fi password.
    3. Reset the Printer's Network Settings (if needed): If you're still having trouble, you can reset the printer’s network settings by pressing and holding the Wireless button on the printer until the light starts flashing. Then, reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi using the HP Smart app or control panel.

3. Troubleshoot the "Out of Paper" Error

  • Paper Tray: Double-check that the paper is loaded correctly in the main tray. Make sure the paper is flat and not too thick or curled. Even a small misalignment can trigger the "out of paper" message.
  • Photo Tray: If the error is specifically referring to the photo tray, ensure it’s correctly loaded with photo paper, and check if the tray is seated properly in the printer.
  • Paper Sensors: Sometimes, the printer’s paper sensors may get blocked or dirty, causing incorrect error messages. Gently clean the area around the paper tray and the sensors with a dry cloth.

4. Try Printing a Test Page

  • After reconnecting your printer and confirming that your paper is correctly loaded, try printing a test page. You can do this via the HP Smart app or by going to the printer’s control panel and selecting Setup > Print Report or Test Print.
  • If the printer still doesn't respond, try printing a test page directly from your computer or mobile device to verify that the connection is working.

5. Firmware Update

  • Check if your printer has any available firmware updates. Sometimes updating the firmware resolves issues related to connectivity and error messages.
    • You can do this through the HP Smart app or by visiting the HP support website and entering your printer model to download and install any available updates.

6. Uninstall/Reinstall HP Software

  • If the setup is still stuck, consider uninstalling and reinstalling any HP software on your computer, including the HP Smart app and printer drivers. This can sometimes resolve conflicts or incomplete installations.
  • After reinstalling, follow the setup instructions again from the HP Smart app.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
