Turned my HP Envy Inspire 7955e all-in-one printer during a downburst storm. Afterwards and turning it back on, it will not print, saying “Expired certificate check printer for errors.” It is wirelessly connected to my iMac which is running OS Tahoe 26.5.2.  I have shut everything down, restarted etc. and installed and reinstalled printer and HP app. Still error.  Printer will scan, copy, but not print.  Please help!!

Hi @Mac4Ever,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Envy Inspire 7955e can scan and copy normally but printing fails with the "Expired Certificate – Check printer for errors" message, the printer hardware is likely functioning correctly. This issue is commonly caused by an expired printer security certificate.

Resolution

HP recommends generating a new self-signed certificate using the printer's Embedded Web Server (EWS).

Please try the following:

  1. Print a Network Configuration Report (if needed) and note the printer's IP address.
  2. On your iMac, open a web browser and enter the printer's IP address in the address bar to open the Embedded Web Server (EWS).
  3. If a security warning appears, choose the option to continue to the website, as you are accessing the printer locally.
  4. Navigate to the Security tab.
  5. Select Certificate Management (or Certificates, depending on the firmware version).
    Clicking Finish
  6. Generate a new self-signed certificate and apply the changes.
  7. Restart both the printer and your Mac, then try printing again.

For detailed instructions, please refer to the HP support document:

If the issue persists

Please let us know:

  • At which step are you unable to proceed?
  • Are you able to access the printer's Embedded Web Server using its IP address?
  • Does the security warning appear only in Safari, or have you also tried another browser, such as Firefox?

This information will help us determine the next appropriate troubleshooting steps.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.
