Hi @WBL56,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Here’s an updated troubleshooting guide to resolve the issue where the color option is missing in the default settings when printing from your HP Envy 6000e on macOS Sonoma 14.6.1.

Ensure Proper Setup in Printer Preferences

  1. Open System Preferences on your Mac.
  2. Go to Printers & Scanners.
  3. Select HP Envy 6000e from the list of printers.
  4. Click Options & Supplies.
  5. Under the Driver tab, ensure that your printer is using the correct driver (HP Smart or HP's recommended printer driver). If it's set to a generic driver, switch it to the HP Envy 6000e-specific driver.
  6. After confirming the driver, go to the Printing Defaults button at the bottom right of this window and ensure it’s set to a Color option, not grayscale.

Set Color as Default in Print Dialog

  1. Open any document you want to print.
  2. Click File > Print.
  3. In the Print dialog box, click the Printer Presets dropdown (at the top of the window).
  4. Select Show Presets.
  5. If no preset is available, click the Color Options dropdown and make sure Color is selected.
  6. If the option is not visible, click on Quality or Layout options and look for a Color setting in any of these menus.

Reset the Print System

If the issue persists, you can try resetting the print system on your Mac:

  1. Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
  2. Right-click (or control-click) anywhere in the printer list and select Reset printing system.
  3. Confirm the reset and then add your HP Envy 6000e printer back by clicking the + button.
  4. Reattempt printing and check if the color option now appears.

Update Software and Drivers

  • Double-check that you have the latest version of HP Smart or the HP Printer Drivers for macOS Sonoma.
  • If any updates are available for the printer in HP Smart, install them.

These steps should help restore the color printing option. If the problem continues, you may need to uninstall and reinstall the printer software or check the print settings directly within the HP Print Center.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
