I upgraded firmware of my HP Laserjet color MFP m775 to version 4 and I am now getting error 49.38.03. After switching on for the first time, it runs and goes into ready mode for a very short time and then shows the error and immediately reboots on its own. After rebooting, the error message will stay until I press restart or shut down the printer. I have cleared all print jobs, removed all cables except the power cable, restarted 30 mins after unplugging the printer. I cannot even downgrade. I don’t know what to do. I have a report that I need printed like yesterday. Please help.

After powering the printer, the error 49.38.03 appears and then the printer automatically reboots. After rebooting, the printer goes into ready the mode for a short while. During this period when I try to update the firmware in under Support Tools/Maintenance/USB Firmware Upgrade, the printer detects the flush disk and then immediately shows the error, so I cannot downgrade the firmware..

I do not know if this will work or not but after downloading that file, unzip it and copy the two files to a thumbdrive.

put the the thumbdrive in the printer

I found the following by using google.   Supposedly you can update the firmware from USB
