@sreis,

Good Day. A warm welcome to the HP community. I reviewed the case regarding the printer's )x error messages.Superb description, brilliant troubleshooting and terrific observations made before posting. Kudos to you for that. 🙂 I will be glad to assist you here.

To assist you with accurate information I would require more information regarding this:

  • Did this happen after a recent power outage or surge?
  • Does it give any ink system failure error messages or paper or carriage am error messages?

For now, try these steps:

First off, let me keep you informed that the printer might have a hardware issue and may require a replacement.

  • From this link: https://hp.care/2HbMynd (HP OfficeJet 8700 Printers - 'Ink System Failure' or 'Supply System Problem' Error Displays)

Please perform all the prescribed steps from Step 1 through Step 9

  • Step 1: Use genuine HP ink cartridges
  • Step 2: Reset the printer
  • Step 3: Remove the ink cartridges
  • Step 4: Clean the ink cartridges
  • Step 5: Update the printer firmware
  • Step 6: Clean the printhead with an automated tool
  • Step 7: Inspect the carriage path for jammed paper
  • Step 8: Reseat the printhead up to three times
  • Step 9: Replace the printhead

Now check for issue resolution. If there are no hardware issues with the printer these steps should fix the issue. If the issue persists, then contact HP phone support to replace the printer as it is faulty.

I am being honest about it by keeping your best interest in mind without beating around the bush.

HP Technical Support can be reached by clicking on the following link: https://hp.care/2r9wSvP

  • Next, choose the 'Contact Support' tab at the top and scroll down to the bottom of the 'HP Support- Contact' page to fill out the form provided with your contact information.
  • Once completed click the 'Show Options' icon on the bottom right.
  • Lastly, scroll down to the bottom of the page and select 'Get phone number.' A case number and phone number will now populate for you.

They will be happy to assist you immediately.

If the unit is under warranty, the manufacturer’s warranty should take care of it for you.

Please perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. Good luck to you. I will keep a watch for your response.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!
