Using UP Envy 5540

Trying to install the printer after a change in network for internet access.

Printer lists "Ready" when trying to print a document.

Then the printer screen shows:  Error Code 0xB885772ZE and will not allow any other commands.

The home, question, and return lights on the left side of printer screen just flash.,

Tried reinstalling the printer, and that procedure appears successful until actually printing.

Hi @DFG65,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

That error code and flashing lights can be really frustrating, especially after a network change. It often signals that the printer's wireless setup has become corrupted. Let’s walk through the most effective solution together:

Step 1: Perform a Semi‑Full Reset on the Printer

A deeper reset than just a network restore is needed. HP recommends this method to fix the error 0xB885772E, which resets the control panel and network configs:

  1. With the printer powered on, press and hold the following buttons simultaneously for 10 seconds
    • Power
    • Resume (❙❙)
    • Wireless
  2. Release all buttons, wait ~10 seconds.
  3. The Control panel display should clear and reboot, restoring the internal network and software settings.

This “semi-full reset” has resolved the issue for many ENVY 5540 users.

Step 2: Reconnect the Printer to Your New Network

Once the reset completes:

  1. On the printer’s touchscreen, navigate to Wireless SettingsWireless Setup Wizard.
  2. Select your new Wi-Fi network and enter the password carefully.
  3. Wait for the confirmation message that the printer is connected.

Step 3: Reinstall Printer Software on Your PC

To ensure a clean connection:

  1. On your computer, go to Settings → Devices → Printers & scanners
    • Remove or forget the old ENVY 5540 instance.
  2. Open the HP ENVY 5540 support page:
  3. Download and install the Full Feature Software and Drivers package for your operating system.
  4. Run the installer and follow the steps; it will detect the newly configured printer over Wi-Fi.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
