Hi @Jen1962,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

The error UA_400_EB000U0422 usually appears during HP printer setup when the printer is still linked to a previous HP account or HP+ Instant Ink subscription. This prevents you from completing registration and using certain features like HP Smart printing or Instant Ink.

Here’s how to fix it step by step:

1. Why This Happens

  • The printer is associated with another HP account (often from a previous owner or previous setup).
  • HP+ or Instant Ink enrollment was cancelled, but the printer still expects that link.

2. Fix the Error

Option A: Contact Previous Owner (if applicable)

  • Ask them to:
    • Sign in to their HP Smart account.
    • Go to My Printers → Remove Printer.
  • Once removed, you can register it under your account.

Option B: Reset Printer to Factory Defaults

  • Using HP Smart App
    • Open HP Smart → Tap your printer → Advanced Settings.
    • Go to Settings → Restore Defaults.
  • Using Embedded Web Server (EWS)
    • Print a Network Configuration Page to find the printer’s IP.
    • Enter IP in a browser → Settings → Restore Factory Defaults.

Option C: Re-add Printer in HP Smart

  • Restart the printer and your device.
  • Open HP Smart → Add printer again.

3. If You Were Enrolled in HP+ or Instant Ink

  • You may need to re-enroll or use standard cartridges (non-Instant Ink) for printing.
