HP DeskJet Ink Advantage 2135
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

Dear HP Support,

I own a HP DeskJet Ink Advantage 2135 since 2015. It has been working properly until a few days ago when I noticed that it cannot print any documents through from my computer (Acer Aspire P3-171 Windows 8.1). However, it can scan and photocopy files. When I try to print any Word document, it stated that there is no printer installed, as in the image below:

Below is my printer information as retrieved from the Toolbox:

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the printer several times but it still shows the same result. I have tried installing the printer by using the downloadable driver available on the HP page (https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-deskjet-2130-all-in-one-printer-series/7174550/model/7174551...) and also from the CD provided when I bought the printer. Now I’m not sure if any of the recent updates on my computer may have caused this problem. There is an update for the Windows 8.1 driver for the HP but I keep receiving error messages when I tried to install it.

I went to Device Manager to view the printer properties, but it showed the error message below:

I clicked yes and the Add Printer Wizard showed up:

add printer.png

I clicked on Print Test Page and another error message showed up:

print test page.png

So I opened the HP Printer Assistant and when I clicked the “Customized Your Printer” option, the message below showed up, the same as when I want to view the properties on Device Manager.

Next, I clicked on the “Maintain Your Printer” option. The printer can print the alignment page through here as well as the clean printer option. The printer can also print the diagnostic information under the Device Reports tab. I have also tried troubleshooting the printer and it mentioned the error below:

I have also tried the method from https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Inkjet-Printing/Printer-will-scan-and-print-but-will-not-print-from-co... but to no avail.

I hope that my problem can be solved as soon as possible. Thank you for your attention.

Hello, @ying8123 – Greetings!

Thanks for reaching out to the HP Support Forums. I’d be glad to help with your printer issue 🙂

I see that you are facing issues with using the Deskjet printer on your Windows PC. I’d suggest you perform a clean install to try and fix the issue. Here are the steps:

  • First, unplug the USB cable from the printer, if present.
  • Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Deskjet printer entries and uninstall them.
  • Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Click the bottom-left Start button on desktop, type device manager in the search box and tap Device Manager on the menu.
  • Once in device manager, click on the view tab in the top & choose “Show hidden devices”.
  • Then from the device manager list, check the entries under “Printer”  – If there are any entries, please right click and choose “uninstall” – In the confirm device un-install pop-up, make sure you select the box which says “Delete the driver software for this device".
  • Also, check the entries under "printer queue" and "imaging devices" and repeat the same exercise. Delete any printer entry or any entry which says “Unknown device”.
  • Once done, close device-manger. Then press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" (there is a space between .exe & /) and press enter.
  • Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
  • Again, go to run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
  • Open run again, type “%temp%” and press enter to get the temporary files. Delete all the files here. Skip the items which cannot be deleted.
  • Now restart your computer again.
  • Open the Run window again, type “services.msc” and press ok to get services window.
  • Scroll down to “Remote Procedure Call (RPC)” – right-click and go to properties. Make sure the service is started and startup type is “Automatic”.
  • Now scroll up and go to “Function Discovery Provider Host” – right-click and select properties – Change the startup type to “manual” and start the service.
  • Repeat the same exercise on “Function Discovery Resource Publication” as well.
  • Now, go to http://hp.care/2qkuHFx to download and install the software.
  • Connect the USB cable if prompted and follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation.

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!

Cheers 🙂

Thank you for your reply.

I tried the method that you suggested, but the problem is still not solved. I have tried to install the printer on another laptop and it worked perfectly fine. It seems that my laptop is the one that could not detect the printer, probably because the recent updates have deleted any in-OS driver for the printer? After I plugged in the printer for installation, the device setup for the printer does not go past beyond this:

I tried  to manually add the printer through the Devices and Printer option in control panel. However, this error message came out:

Since the printer worked on other laptop, I think my laptop is the one that has problem. If you have any solution regarding this, please let me know. Thank you in advance.

Hello, @ying8123

It certainly looks like an issue with the Windows operating system environment on your PC.

Let's try to install the printer using the Windows built-in drivers.

First, open Windows Device Installation Settings and confirm that your computer is set to automatically download driver software.

  • Search Windows for Change Device Installation, and then click the Change device installation settings Control Panel setting in the list of results.
  • Device Installation Settings window displays.
  • Select the Yes option, and then click Save Changes.

Now, follow the steps listed under step 3 here: http://hp.care/2oSqtTW

Let me know if that helps!

Good luck 🙂
