My printer froze while updating the firmware.  Nothing works, but I get error code 8AF30001.  How can I load firmware without the printer or screen working?

Hi @ECW,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

The error code 8AF30001 during a firmware update on your HP Smart Tank 7602 All-in-One printer typically indicates a firmware corruption or failure during the update process, which can cause the printer to freeze or become unresponsive.

Here’s how to proceed:

Step 1: Perform a Power Reset

  1. Disconnect the power cord from the printer while it is still on.
  2. Wait 60 seconds.
  3. Reconnect the power cord and turn the printer back on.
  4. Check if the error clears.

Step 2: Use HP Firmware Recovery Tool (Windows)

If the printer is still unresponsive:

  1. Download the latest firmware for your printer: 🔗 HP Smart Tank 7602 All-in-One Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Support
  2. Install the HP Printer Firmware Updater on your PC.
  3. Connect the printer to your PC via USB cable (not Wi-Fi).
  4. Run the firmware updater and follow the on-screen instructions.

⚠️ If the printer is not detected, skip to Step 3.

Step 3: Try Recovery Mode (if available)

Some HP printers support a firmware recovery mode:

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Press and hold the Cancel + Wireless buttons.
  3. While holding them, press the Power button.
  4. Release all buttons after 5 seconds.

If the printer enters recovery mode, retry the firmware update via USB.

I hope this helps.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
