Whenever I try to print, I get an error message saying that android could not validate the certificate & the security certificate is not trusted. I press "install certificate" & it comes back saying that it couldn't be installed & it gives me a really long series of letters & numbers. This just started happening out of nowhere & I have been searching for months on how to fix this, but I just can't find anything to help me.. all I know is that I am completely unable to print anything because of this & i am really STUCK. .please help me! Welcome to HP support community.

  1. Confirm your Android device is connected to the same network as your printer, or that Wi-Fi Direct on your printer and Android device is enabled.

  2. On your Android device, install or update the HP Print Service Plugin (in English) from the Google Play Store.

  3. Once the installation or update is complete, choose your Android device to turn on the plugin:

  4. Android 6 (Marshmallow) and earlier devices: Tap Settings, search for and open HP Print Service, and then tap On.

  5. Turn off any other print service plugins, if necessary.

Sandy,

Perhaps I was not very clear with the problem I have been having:

My printer has been set up for over a year

I do have (I have always had) the correct plug in for the printer, & it is up to date.

I do have (have always had) the Smart Printer App installed on my mobile device, & it is up to date.

My printer IS connected to my wireless network with no problems now or before I started receiving the error message that I originally posted about.

NOTHING had been wrong with my printer setup AT ALL before this.

To refresh - When I select the "print" option (after I have selected my options & the final result is ready to be printed, I receive an error message telling me that the certificate is not trusted & in order for me to print (this applies to BOTH wireless AND wifi Direct modes) I must install the security certificate "HPA08CFD96FBE4"

After selecting "Install", the following message is given: "Certificate could not be installed"

Also, there is also an area that (if I knew what it was talking about) I can enter a "Username" & underneath that is obviously an area asking for a " Password".. Im not an expert or anything, but it looks like pretty standard stuff.

I should also mention that at the top where I'm given the security certificate #, it says "This server could not prove that it is 'HPA08CFD96FBE4'."

" Android cannot validate the certificate.

"The security certificate presented was not issued by a trusted certificate authority. "

To me, it would seem like a fairly simple (and logical) solution to just go to the HP website & it be possible to search the certificate# I was given, and then for HP to have it available for me to download & install it. But since I can't even seem to access several areas of the HP website without some sord of REDICULOUS error message telling me that "blah blah blah doesn't support the format yadda yadda yadda", I can't really figure out what to do next.. and let me just say that at this point neither my husband or I can come up with even ONE good reason why we should EVER purchase ANYTHING that has HP on it again. It's a SIMPLE & STRAIGHT FORWARD printer, now WHY HASN'T THE SOLUTION BEEN THE SAME?

So if I can't get any assistance with the"certificate" problem, MAYBE I could get a RELEVANT answer for that question???

ANYONE? (I apologise for being so cynical, but I am absolutely tired of this, it's gone on for way too long, & I am just a little bit frustrated that I'm having such a difficult time with a company like Hewlett Packard!.. REALLY?)

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).

If you are unfamiliar with how the Community's private message capability works, you can learn about that here.
