Printer Deskjet 4670 series
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I recently face a problem with the scanner of the printer. I get an error message on my laptop. The error message says approximately this: The program twunk_16.exe is not compatible with the Windows 7 64 bit system.

Can somebody help. It's frustrating.

Thanks

Welcome to HP Support Forums. 🙂 I came across your post and would like to help.

I understand that you have an HP DeskJet Ink Advantage 4670 All-in-One Printer. I read that when you try to scan there is an error message stating "he program twunk_16.exe is not compatible with the Windows 7 64 bit system." Not worry, I'll do my best to help you.

To provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • Is the printer connected via USB or wirelessly?
  • Is the printer able to print and make a copy? If copy works fine then it indicates that the scanning hardware is good
  • Does this error come up while using any other program or application on the computer?

Meanwhile, I did some research and found that the TWUNK_16.EXE errors may appear due to the following reasons:

  • Either the scanning drivers have an issue.
  • Could be because of a virus, spyware, etc. It's better to have your computer scanned through an antivirus software.

I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:

  • Please download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor software. This is a free tool for Windows to help resolve issues with the printer drivers.
  • You may try to scan and check if it helps. If the error continues to appear then I suggest you to uninstall the printer drivers from the root level and then reinstall them by following the below steps:
  • In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
  • Select your HP printer.
  • Select Uninstall.
  • In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
  • In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
  • Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
  • Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
  • Click on Drivers tab.
  • Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
  • Select OK.
  • Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.
  • Close Devices and Printers.

Now, you may download and install the drivers from this link

I sincerely hope this fixes the issue. Let me know how it goes. Cheers! 🙂

Dear MKazi. I should first thank you for the very detailed answer to my request for help. It is very structured and impressive and this reflects on HP as a whole. Yes, the printer is connected via wireless network. I can print and copy allright. I have not tried your proposed solution. Prior to receiving your answer, I believe I solved the problem by downloading the driver from HP and subsequently scanned without problem. But I have saved your proposed solution for future reference. Thank you very much, indeed.
