HP Envy Laptop
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I successfully installed HP OfficeJet 5255 driver from the "full feature" .EXE file from the official HP Driver site.  I was able to use the Printer and Scan features for a few months. The Printer suddenly stopped working and now throws an error message  (exact words) "Error printing on HP OfficeJet 5200 series PCL-3 (Network)".

  • The printer IS connected to my Wireless - I've disconnected/reconnected numerous times.
  • My Laptop CAN find the printer during "Add a Printer".
  • I CAN Print using HP ePrint (emailing a file to print).
  • I CAN Scan to my printer.
  • I CANNOT Print.

Nothing changed in my laptop environment when the error started.  This is a snippet of the exact error message.

I have followed every recommended fix I can find, including:

1. Uninstall and Reinstall Drivers and the Program files

2. Unplug/ re-set the printer

3. Uninstall AND THEN Remove Driver from Registry using RegEdit AND using the "Run" command "printui.exe /s" to remove the driver there.

I have also installed the Driver from the 123.hp.com site with no luck.   Is one Driver install method preferred - the executable file versus the 123.hp.com method?

I have dug deep with zero results for two weeks.  Please help!!

Thank you

Hi @ocean_ja

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you with the printing error.

Try assigning a manual IP. Refer to this video link for step by step instructions.

If the issue still persists, try adding a TCP/ IP port -

1) Print a Network Configuration Report from the Printer Settings or Wireless menu.
2) Right-click your printer, select Printer Properties, click the Ports tab and then click Add Port.
3) Select Standard TCP/IP Port, and then click New Port.
4) Follow the instructions to add a new port using the information listed on the Network Configuration Report.
5) Try printing.

Also, try updating the printer's firmware. Refer to this document for steps - HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Thank you for the response!  Funny enough, after I posted this question, I found a similar answer on this forum... after I had been searching and trying fixes for 2 weeks lol.  So I did end up adding a TCP/IP port and it fixed the problem.

It sounds like this is a common issue but it was really difficult for me to identify it and find the solution.  Hopefully others will figure it out more quickly.

Thanks again!
