Hi @Dav2025,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP DeskJet 5820 and that you’re locked out of the Embedded Web Server (EWS) due to a forgotten password. Let’s go through a few steps to reset it.

Confirm EWS password behavior
The DeskJet 5820 does not have a separate “admin” master password.
If an EWS password is set and forgotten, it cannot be recovered and must be cleared by resetting printer settings.

Restore network settings (recommended first)
This clears the EWS password without affecting ink or hardware.

On the printer control panel, press and hold Cancel (X) and Wireless (📶) together

Hold for 5 seconds, then release
The printer will restart and reset network and EWS security settings.

Reconnect the printer to Wi-Fi
After the reset, the printer will be disconnected from the network.

Use HP Smart or the printer’s wireless setup to reconnect

Once connected, open the printer IP address in a browser to access EWS

Access EWS without a password
After the network reset, EWS should open without prompting for a password.
If prompted, leave the password field blank and sign in.

Set a new EWS password (optional)
In EWS:

Go to Settings → Security

Create a new password and store it securely
This prevents unauthorized access in the future.

If the password prompt still appears
Perform a full restore:

Power the printer ON

Disconnect the power cable from the rear

Wait 60 seconds

Reconnect and power on
Then repeat the network reset in step 2.

I hope this helps.
