Windows Update 24H2 bricked my computer. reinstalled win 11 and Office but can not get driver for HP Deskjet F4580.
Hp says retired!! no legacy drivers on site. Need to never buy HP again if they cannot even store older drivers for paying customers.

Hi @rvanriet,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be glad to help you!
I’m really sorry to hear about the trouble with your HP Deskjet F4580, especially after reinstalling everything from scratch—it’s frustrating to feel unsupported by a product you’ve invested in. Let’s see what we can do to get your printer working again.
- Have you tried connecting the printer via USB to see if Windows automatically installs basic drivers?
- Were you previously using the HP Deskjet F4580 with Windows 11, or did the problem only start after the 24H2 update?
- Do you primarily need printing functionality, or do you also rely on scanning and other features?
Let's try these steps.
Let Windows Detect Drivers:
- Connect the printer via USB and restart your computer.
- Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners, and click Add a Printer.
- Windows often installs a basic driver automatically for older printers.
Use Windows Update to Search for Drivers:
- Open Device Manager by pressing Windows Key + X and selecting it.
- Find your printer under Printers or Other Devices.
- Right-click it and choose Update Driver > Search automatically for drivers.
Try Compatibility Mode with Older Drivers:
- Search online for drivers for Windows 7 or Windows 10 for the HP Deskjet F4580 (sometimes hosted on third-party sites like DriverGuide).
- Download and run the installer in Compatibility Mode:
- Right-click the installer, go to Properties > Compatibility, and select an older Windows version.
Use the HP Print and Scan Doctor:
- Download the HP Print and Scan Doctor to diagnose connectivity and driver issues.
- The tool may identify and install compatible drivers automatically.
Install a Generic Printer Driver:
- Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers > Add a Printer.
- Select The printer that I want isn’t listed and choose Add a local printer.
- Select Use an existing port (e.g., USB001) and choose a generic driver like HP Deskjet 450 from the list.
If these steps don’t resolve the issue, and since HP has retired support for the F4580, you might consider using a Windows built-in driver and see if that helps. Click here
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
