I have a HP Deskjet 2540 and going to give to my friend. However I don't know how to totally reset my printer to factory setting and be ready to setup again by my friend. So how can I factory reset either on my computer or on the printer?

ok u can do a hard reset. if u see wireless icon is there that means it has ur ip. then and only then u need to do this. otherwise its normal. for hard reset press and hole the wireless and cancel button together and remove the power cable and reconnect the power cable then release the 2 buttons. if u see wireless light is blinking that means its done. there in nothing else. relax ur secret is not hear saved. enjoy

Im not sure to direct this to you, the person posting or to anyone who read your reset instructions and planning on following them. Not to be mean but I think either you need to do some additional research regarding this then doing a rewrite and edit.
The fact im almost certain your directions arent accurate, although almost accurate doesnt cut it when it comes to resets. This could cause damage or additional problems down the line. You spelled "hold" HOLD..as in hold the button, secondly youre not specific enough because youre not stating whether the power cord gets disconnected from the power source or from the printer- how long do you disconnect for - you say to keep holding the 2 buttons as you disconnect, but arent clear about when to stop pressing them. The minute the power source is disconnected, pressing the wireless and cancel buttons wont matter anymore.
Bottom line here is I suspect that either you further research and post an accurate description of performing a reset, OR people reading it shouldnt trust its accuracy therefore do further research on a reset ensuring its done properly and doesnt do damage. Again, Im writing this out of concern, not being cruel or sarcastic either-I just think your instructions are "off".
