HP OfficeJet 4650 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

I followed instructions to unplug the printer for 60 seconds due to an error code. The printer LCD only blinks now. How can I set it back to factory settings?

Hi @LissaLou,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand how concerning it is when your HP OfficeJet 4650 All-in-One Printer only shows a blinking LCD screen after a reset attempt. Let’s walk through the steps to perform a factory reset and recover your printer.

Step-by-Step: Factory Reset for HP OfficeJet 4650

⚠️ Important Note:

If the LCD screen is only blinking and not displaying any content, it may indicate a firmware or hardware fault, and a factory reset might not be possible through the standard menu. But let’s try the recommended steps first.

Method 1: Factory Reset via Printer Menu (if screen is responsive)

  1. Turn on the printer.
  2. On the home screen, tap the gear icon (Settings).
  3. Scroll to Printer Maintenance or Preferences.
  4. Tap Restore Settings or Restore Factory Defaults.
  5. Confirm the reset.

Method 2: Semi-Full Reset (if screen is unresponsive or blinking)

This method uses a hidden key combination:

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer and the wall outlet.
  3. Wait 60 seconds.
  4. Press and hold the following buttons simultaneously
    • Back button (←) and Power button
  5. While holding the buttons, plug the power cord back in.
  6. Continue holding for 10–15 seconds, then release.

If successful, the printer should restart and display the setup screen.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
