Product: HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M477
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

HP sent out security bulletin "HPSBPI03687 rev. 3", stating "HP has provided firmware updates". For the M477 printer and others, this is version 20201021. The firmware is not available however. The hotline seems to have little information about this type of updates. They simply hung up on me, that's a first for me. Shukran, anyway.

If your printer has access to the internet enable automatic update, if available the printer will download the latest firmware automatically from HP and update itself.

Thank you very much for your swift reply!

I am afraid that the printer does not find the announced firmware version either (“no update available”).

Is it possible that the update was revoked due to 3rd party cartridge issues? I use HP cartridges.

I'm experiencing the same issue.  The printer does not find the firmware.  Furthermore, the only firmware on the downloads page was uploaded in July with a datecode of 20200612.  I found that my windows 10 machine was unable to successfully apply this firmware even though the updater tool said it was applied successfully. When i went to the printer, it still showed a datecode from 2019.  I tried with macOS and it updated the firmware.  

 

As the original poster mentions however, the followin security bulletin indicates a firmware datecode of 20201021 for M477 series MF printers, but no such download exists.
