Hi @TimCoffield,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're facing an issue where an HP OfficeJet Pro 8625 printer is not successfully updating its firmware to remove cartridge error messages. Here are a few steps you can follow to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue:

1. Check Printer Connectivity

Ensure your printer is properly connected to your computer or network. A stable connection is crucial for firmware updates. You can connect via USB or make sure your printer is on the same Wi-Fi network as your computer.

2. Download the Correct Firmware

Make sure you have downloaded the correct firmware file for the HP OfficeJet Pro 8625. You can find the latest firmware on the HP Support website. Here’s how to ensure you have the right one:

  • Go to the HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads.Enter your printer model (OfficeJet Pro 8625).Select the correct operating system.Download the latest firmware.

3. Manual Firmware Update

  • Save the firmware update file to your computer.

Prepare the Printer:

  • Turn on the printer and make sure it is in a ready state.Ensure no print jobs are in the queue.

Run the Update:

  • Locate the downloaded firmware file and run it.Follow the on-screen instructions carefully.

4. Using HP Utility Tools

Try using HP utility tools to update the firmware:

  • HP Printer Update Utility: Some HP printers have a specific utility for firmware updates. This can sometimes be found as a separate download on the HP support site.
  • HP Smart App: Ensure the app is up-to-date. Sometimes uninstalling and reinstalling the app can resolve issues.

5. Clear Printer Cache and Settings

If the printer has residual settings or errors, performing a partial reset can help:

  • Turn off the printer.Disconnect the power cord from the printer and the wall outlet.
  • Wait for at least 60 seconds.Reconnect the power cord and turn on the printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
