Hello,

My Printer has a Problem, where it freezes after being plugged in for a longer while. I've found someone else having a similar Problem with a 7000s Printer. One of the Steps is to update the firmware.

Starting an Update from over the local web dashboard does not work. The Printer Complains about not being connected to a Network. This is not true, as it can be pinged from the Intranet and also Internet. I wanted to manually update the Firmware via usb, but there on the Support Page I cannot even select MacOS as an operating System. The Linux Page also does not contain an executable. I do not own any Windows Machines.

Please dont use any AI Generated Awnsers. They are always wrong.

Cheers

Hi @vomitbo,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand your concern and appreciate your clarity. Firmware updates can be tricky without Windows access. Here’s the official HP-supported approach:

Why the Web Dashboard Fails

The printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS) requires an active HP connection for firmware updates. Even if the printer responds to pings, it may not validate the network for updates due to DNS or HP server checks.

Official HP Firmware Update Options

Unfortunately, HP only provides firmware executables for Windows for most Smart Tank models. macOS and Linux users typically need to:

  • Use the HP app on macOS for updates (if supported).
  • Or temporarily access a Windows environment (physical PC or virtual machine) to run the .exe firmware updater.

HP does not provide standalone .bin files for manual USB updates on consumer printers.

What You Can Do Without Windows

  1. Check the HP App on macOS:
  2. Use a Virtual Machine:
    • If you have an Intel Mac, you can install a lightweight Windows VM (e.g., VirtualBox or Parallels) and run the HP firmware tool.

  3. HP Support Alternative:
    • Contact HP Support and request a remote firmware push or a service center update. They can often trigger updates without requiring your OS.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
