I am having trouble keeping my printer connected to my network. To try to fix this I found a firmware update (20210202) and attempted to install it.
After several tries, I get the same message on my printer: "79 Service Error Turn off then on" . Since the installer says don't turn off the printer, I let it continue. The printer then turns itself of, then begins recycling. Shortly after the firmware installer says, "Firmware transfer error. There was an error transferring new firmware to the device. Make sure the device is ready and try again."
Any fix?
As a solution to my original problem, should I just assign a static IP and be done with the firmware upgrade nonsense?

79 service errors can be triggered by an incompatible driver, corrupted file or hardware incompatibility. Unplug the network and usb cables and try cycling the power to see if the printer come to ready. If it does, then delete any drivers off your computer and try reinstalling.

I'm not sure this helps with a Mac or applies with a wireless setup (I am not using USB or ethernet). Nevertheless, I did the following--resulting in the same failure:
1. I went to System Preferences>Printers & Scanners and removed the printer from the printer list.
2. I turned off the printer and shut down the computer, both for several hours.
3. I restarted both the printer and computer.
4. I reinstalled the printer in System Preferences.
5. Upon completing this, I was able to print wirelessly (as I had been before).
6. I ran the firmware updater and got the same error messages.
FWIW, my preferences pane says the driver version is 2.0. I do not know if this is significant.
