I've searched for this topic here and tried every solution proposed except for the apparent "double-secret probation NVRAM reset button sequence" that the HP techs will only send on request.  Please consider this my formal request, as this printer is headed to the dumpster otherwise.  And FWIW, I've let it sit for over a month as one person suggestesd, to fully discharge any residual electricity, but still get the error message immediately on start up.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Try to resend firmware through usb port which is the best choice or you'll need to replace the formatter.

In most cases in my experience an NVRAM reset will not solve the problem because the base operating system is corrupted and needs to be refreshed. Once this error occurs it is more complicated than simply downloading and installing it. You need to create a generic printer driver, send the firmware and the change the usb port assigned to that driver until the printer responds and accepts the download.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I went through that routine about 6 weeks ago.  I experimented with the universal print driver on various USB ports until I had the correct one. Then I attempted multiple times to update the firmware, and as I recall the update would just hang partway through (30+ minutes). I’d finally give up and cycle the power and be right back to the “Firmware corrupt ready 2 download error.”  Very frustrating.

Tried the NVRAM initialization routine a couple times.  First thing on the screen is the firmware corrupt error, and it never goes on to display anything else.  And as previously noted, going through the USB port to intall firmware got me nowhere as well.  So, that means next step is replacing the formatter board?  Thanks for the help!

In case I missed something, I just reinstalled the printer using v6. universal printer driver, connected to USB_001 virtual port.  That allowed me to start the firmware transfer, but the printer screen is still stuck on:

Erasing...

The blue progress bar on the PC finished and gave me the smiley face at the end, seemingly indicating a successful install (as it did 6 weeks ago), but that obviously isn't the case.  Just for grins, ran the firmware update a second time (while the printer was still showing "Erasing...", and eventually got a message on the PC that printer CP1525nw was unable to print Firmware Update.

Any more ideas, or did I miss something, or is it time to shop for a new format board or new printer?

Based on your results I would say that the formatter is bad.
