HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M281cdw
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

About a week ago (10-27-22), the printer firmware was automatically updated to 20220414, since then it became very unstable throwing error codes 79 and 49 to the point that is no longer working and constantly cycles between boot mode and error code 49 nonstop. We attempted to reinstall the firmware again but the USB port is not working due to the nonstop booting cycle, not letting access to the main menu.

All accessories were removed and wifi service disconnected. We did a hard restart holding the screen down and restarting it, but didn’t work. Power cord disconnected for more than 30 minutes and nothing. Still doing the same thing.

Does anyone know how to do a factory reset with a flasdrive or any other factory method?

Printer: HP Color LaserJet MFP M281cdw

Formatter Number: 5L729KQ

Please help.

This issue was caused by firmware revision 20221010, which was released last week and has since been withdrawn for the issue you are experiencing. HP is working on a fix, so best advice at this time is to monitor the community group for updates.

Thank you for the info. 👍

Just a few months back, I bought the 4 HP high yield cartridges.  Now my printer is not working... very sad!

Just FYI. The End-User License Agreement ("EULA") provides the updates "AS IS". Be careful when you buy their products. Make sure you buy the longest extended warranty possible.

On my MFP M477fdw, after installing the FW update 20220414 HP Web Services, Apps and Scan to Email functionalities stopped working. There are also others reposting problems after installing this update,

Same issue after the update. Mine is now in a cycle with a '49 service error' and will not even load the touch screen or come online to be managed. Attempted the reset, but the problem persists. How is HP going to fix this?
