HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283cdw
macOS 12.0 Monterey

There is a firmware update listed on the page for my printer

https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/hp-color-laserjet-pro-m282-m285-multifunction-printer-series/mo...

I downloaded it and have attempted to install 4 times. Each time the Updater starts and eventually gets stuck at the very end of the process.

Hi @twodollars,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you're having trouble updating the firmware on your HP Color LaserJet MFP M283cdw, here are several troubleshooting steps you can try:

1. Check Connection

  • Ensure that the printer is connected to the network and that the connection is stable. If you’re using a USB connection, make sure the cable is secure and not damaged.

2. Disable Security Software

  • Sometimes antivirus or firewall settings can interfere with firmware updates. Temporarily disable these programs and try the update again.

3. Use HP Smart App or HP Printer Assistant

  • Instead of using the downloaded firmware file, try updating through the HP Smart app or the HP Printer Assistant, which can guide you through the update process.

4. Download a Fresh Firmware File Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Re-download the firmware file from the official HP support page to ensure you have a complete and uncorrupted file.

5. Restart Devices

  • Restart both your printer and your computer. This can sometimes resolve temporary issues.

6. Run as Administrator

  • Right-click on the updater file and choose “Run as administrator.” This can help with permission issues that might be causing the update to fail.

7. Clear Print Queue

  • If there are jobs stuck in the print queue, it might cause the firmware update to hang. Clear the queue before attempting the update.

8. Try a Different Computer

  • If possible, try the update on a different computer to rule out any issues with your current setup.

I hope this helps.

Did all of that…. Still not working.
Also, the printer doesn’t self flash, it doesn’t find the latest firmware. It still has version 2023-03-21.

The software page shows for macOS 14:

Version 20240904

Oct 22, 2024

can’t I install that firmware while on macOS 15?  It has security updates!!
