HP OfficeJet 8014 All-in-One Printer

Hello Guys,

My printer has been trying to update for the past three days without success. Every time I turn it on, it automatically starts the update process, but it never completes. I’ve tried restarting the printer multiple times, but the issue persists. Additionally, I can’t connect to the printer through my phone or via a cable, making it completely unusable for now. It’s becoming really frustrating.

Hi @Lukas51,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're dealing with a frustrating situation with your printer's update process. Here are some steps you can take to resolve the issue:

1. Power Cycle the Printer

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and turn it on to see if the update process can complete.

2. Check for Paper Jams or Issues

  • Sometimes, printers may get stuck due to paper jams or other hardware issues. Make sure there are no obstructions inside the printer.

3. Perform a Hard Reset

  • Disconnect the power cord from both the printer and the wall outlet.
  • Press and hold the power button on the printer for about 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power cord and turn the printer back on.

4. Cancel the Update (If Possible)

  • If the printer's interface allows it, try to cancel the update process.
  • Check the printer menu for an option to stop or cancel updates.

5. Connect via USB Cable

  • If you haven’t already, try connecting the printer directly to your computer using a USB cable. This may allow you to access the printer’s settings or update options directly through the HP software.

6. Use the HP Smart App

  • Download the HP Smart app on your phone or computer. If you can connect via USB, the app may help you manage updates or troubleshoot further.

7. Reset Network Settings

  • If the printer has an option to reset network settings in the menu, try doing that. This might help clear any issues preventing it from connecting to your network.

8. Firmware Recovery Mode

  • Some HP printers have a firmware recovery mode. You may need to refer to the printer’s user manual or HP’s support site for specific instructions on entering this mode and recovering the firmware.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
