HP Laserjet M281fdw

A recent firmware update was accidentally installed and now the printer refuses to print.  Changing the cartridges does not help.  We need to downgrade the firmware or fix this issues.

I am very disappointed in HP for causing this as part of your update process.

Please contact me asap to resolve as this printer is critical to my company's operation.

Regards,

John

@boulj, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Are you using HP ink toners?

A firmware update will not cause an issue with HP ink toners. And, there is no option to downgrade the printer firmware.

What is the error you get?

Which ink toner is defective?

Keep me posted.

I contacted HP Chat support and after a marathon session, they did supply a firmware downgrade and the printer is working again.  IMHO, it is unethical to push firmware updates that will only work with HP supplies!!  This wasn't something we asked for to be installed, it popped up on the LCD screen and was accidentally installed by a user.  We also have considerable amount of unused supplies.  Are we supposed to just throw that out?  I will not be purchasing HP products in the future.

John
