HP Envy 4524 printer
Linux

My HP Envy 4524 printer received the update below.

Firmware Version - CFP1FN2023BR

Built Date - 2020-06-02

Now when the printer is switched on the message 'THE INDICATED CARTRIDGES ARE NOT INTENDED FOR USE ON THIS PRINTER' - and the colour cartridge is indicated.

On the cartridge it says 'HP 302' and has been in this printer for months.

After trying YouTube fixes the only way I can get anything to print is to remove the colour cartridge.

IS THERE A WAY TO DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL THE PREVIOUS FIRMWARE VERSION?

Welcome to the HP support community.

Clean the electrical contacts

  1. Turn the printer on.

  2. Open the door to access the cartridges.

  3. Wait until the carriage stops moving before you continue.

  4. Remove the cartridge indicated in the error message from its slot, holding it by its side.

      caution:

Do not touch the copper-colored contacts or the ink nozzles. Touching these parts can result in clogs, ink failure, and bad electrical connections.

  5. Remove any protective tape that still might be on the contacts.

      caution:

Do not touch or try to remove the copper electrical strip.

Remove the plastic tape and do not touch the contacts or ink nozzles

  6. Lightly dampen a lint-free cloth with distilled water, and then clean only the copper-colored contacts on the cartridge.

  7. Lightly dampen a lint-free cloth with distilled water, and then clean the electrical contacts in the carriage, located inside the printer.

  8. Wait 10 minutes for the contacts to dry.

  9. Reinsert the cartridge.

    • Insert the black cartridge into the right slot.

    • Insert the tri-color cartridge into the left slot.

  10. Repeat these steps for the other cartridge, if necessary.

  11. Close the cartridge access door.

  12. If the error persists, repeat the previous steps to clean the cartridge and carriage contacts a second time.

  13. Check for the error message.

Hello Sandytechy20,

That made absolutely no difference. Still the same error message.

The cartridge is labelled as 'hp 302 Tri-colour Ink Cartridge' and has a code of 'F6U65A'.

HOWEVER, I have found a very old cartridge that I had previously used from Cartridge World that is labelled as 'Color 302xl, Replaces F6U67AE' and that appears to be working fine with no error messages.

My conclusion is that there is an amazing coincidence of the cartridge developing a fault whilst still in the printer that makes the printer think it is not for this printer - or maybe there is a bug in the firmware, or it has been corrupted in my printer.

At the moment I am a bit wary of replacing the 'hp 302 Tri-colour' with the same model cartridge.

Regards,

John Peers.
