A couple weeks ago, my printer asked if I wanted to install the latest firmware.  Unfortunately I selected yes.  Since then, it would come up error 79 code and continuously reboot.  I managed to get the error 79 code to stop, but the printer keeps rebooting.  I need help rolling back to previous firmware version.

Hi @WW2023,

Welcome to the HP support community.

I understand that you are getting 79 service errors, and I am glad to assist you.

Follow the steps mentioned in this HP document to fix the issue: Click here

Note: Most recent hp printers do not allow firmware downgrade. They have built-in code that checks the version of the download and will not accept any firmware that is earlier than the current version.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hey there.

I can confirm this is happening on multiple printers.

I first purchased one at Costco, and I was suggested by HP support to bring it to the latest firmware. Brought it to 20220729 version and then I kept getting this reboot loop that occurs after the printer goes into sleep mode.

So I go ahead and return that printer and purchased another one. Just recently got the latest firmware on it. And after a recent power outage since coming back on, it has been in this reboot loop with Service Error 79. And I have read through that link due to the first printer issue. I may have to just go and return this one now because calling your support line and using the messenger has been quite utterly useless!

Will probably end up going back there to pick up another one and not update the firmware at all.

I was at the point where I was contemplating going and buying a new printer but it frustrated me that my printer worked fine until their firmware update.  Then of course it was outside of the warranty, so HP wanted to charge me to assist, which made it even worse.         After talking to some of my networking friends at work, one suggested resetting to factory default.  When I got home fiddled around with it and went to the Home screen on the printer, then selected Service, then selected Restore Defaults and it seemed to fix it for me. So simple that I was amazed that it wasn't mentioned by anyone else.  Hope it helps you.

@WW2023 Thanks, I found that on a different CDW board related to the same situation.

I had to disable IPv6 and DHCP for it and then do the factory reset and it hasn't occurred since ::fingers crossed:: maybe once out of a blue moon.
