Hi @StreamHelen,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand how upsetting it is when a firmware update suddenly leads to cartridge errors, especially after you were printing perfectly before. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you roll back the firmware and restore your printer:

1. Understand What Went Wrong

The firmware update (MANHATNPP1N002.2546A.00) introduced “dynamic security,” which blocks non-HP or third-party cartridges. That’s why the printer now shows "cartridge error" and refuses to print, even though it worked fine previously.

2. Prepare for Firmware Rollback

  • Use a USB or direct wired network connection; avoid Wi‑Fi for reliability.
  • Download an older firmware version compatible with your model. HP doesn’t offer older versions on their site, but many third-party sources preserve them (search "HP printer firmware downgrade" by model).
  • Turn off automatic updates on the printer so the firmware doesn’t upgrade itself again.

To disable automatic updates:

  1. On the printer’s control panel, under SetupServiceManage Updates
    • Set Allow Downgrade to Yes
    • Set Check Automatically to Off
    • Set Allow Updates to Yes

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Have the exact same issue, the printer update to this firmware, even i set "just notify". Cant find any "allow downgrade" on my 9014.

Hello Vikram,

could you specify, how exactly we can do this on 9010 Series printers? From what i can see, there is only a button to enable/disable automatic updates, but nothing that says something like "allow downgrade". Is this only in a specific mode available or something?

Please write a step by step guide.

Thanks
