Does OfficeJet Pro9015e have Dynamic Security? If so, is there a Firmware update to Disable Dynamic Security for OfficeJet Pro9015e to eliminate HP’s block on third-party ink?

           Hello anonymous1710,

Click Supplies Management, then Go to Main Configuration Page. In the Cartridge Policy drop-down list, select the desired option: To enable cartridge policy, select HP Authorized. To disable cartridge protection, select Disabled.

Apologies for jumping in unannounced.

@anonymous1710

Yes, this printer series includes Dynamic Security.

Switching OFF the Cartridge Protection does NOT impact whether the printer can use Non-HP ink or cartridges.

Why?

Cartridge Protection is used to prevent ink cartridges being removed from one printer and used in another printer.

What?

Companies -- or even families or students -- might engage Cartridge Protection to keep thieves from stealing the ink cartridges out of the printer.

Cartridge Protection is NOT a way to disable the onboard and embedded Dynamic Security.

Open your Browser > Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Tab Settings > Supplies > Supply Settings > Cartridge Protection = OFF or ON

The Cartridge Protection feature allows cartridges to be permanently protected for use in only one fleet of products or product to help prevent theft. If, after cartridges have been protected, they are moved to a device outside the fleet (fleet based) or to a different printer (printer based), these cartridges will be identified as protected and will have to be replaced to continue printing.

Note:

    When you turn on this feature, all cartridges installed in the printer will be protected. However, if you turn off this feature again, these cartridges will remain protected. Only cartridges installed afterwards will not have cartridge protection enabled.

Will that same process work for Windows 8?

HP Recommended

o, Dragon Fur you're saying these printers will ONLY operate on HP cartridges and non-OEM ink cartridges will never work?

@mikiejoe

The data and documents say that the printer series is meant to use only HP chipped cartridges.

That generally means that you must purchase HP cartridges --

If you choose to purchase / refill cartridges, use only HP chipped cartridges.

Partial Excerpt

HP printers are designed to work with Original HP Ink and toner cartridges. As is standard in the printing Business, HP printers use a process to authenticate cartridges. In certain HP printers, this authentication process includes dynamic security measures. Dynamic security relies on the printer’s ability to communicate with the security chips or electronic circuitry on the cartridges. HP uses dynamic security measures to protect the quality of our customer experience, maintain the integrity of our printing systems, and protect our intellectual property.

Dynamic security

Dynamic security equipped printers are intended to work only with cartridges that have new or reused HP chips or electronic circuitry. The printers use the dynamic security measures to block cartridges using non-HP chips or modified or non-HP electronic circuitry.* Original HP cartridges that retain the original HP chip or electronic circuitry enable the refilling, reuse, or remanufacturing of the cartridge and are unaffected by dynamic security.

Dragon-Fur, are employed or associated with HP in any way?

Are you saying there IS NOT a way to turn-off the dynamic security feature in an HP Office Jet Pro 9018e printer?

@mikiejoe

I do not work for HP.

Your insistence is understandable --

We, that is, Experts and other members in the Community, do not speak for HP.

We can refer you to the HP documentation that HP publishes to explain how ink is used in HP printers.

I do say that, in my opinion, there is no legal way to bypass any limitation published as HP policy.

We do not propose or discuss any methods that would be used to breach the security of any device, HP or otherwise.
