Hello all!

I cannot update firmware because printer error B8932D94 causes constant rebooting.  Tried a reset according to threads on the support site without success.  Thought the error came from installing non-HP cartridges but it still pops up even with HP branded cartridges installed.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi @idamman,

Thank you for posting on HP Forums,

The Barachiel is at your service.

I understand you are in need of support,

I'll be glad to help you out. 🙂

Please try the steps given below:

Step 1: Remove the ink cartridges

Removing the ink cartridges and checking for an error message can help diagnose the printer issue. Take the ink cartridges out of the print carriage, and then check the printer control panel or computer for an error message.

  1. Slip your fingers into the slot on the left side of the printer, and then pull forward to open the ink cartridge access door.

The carriage moves to the left side of the access area.

Figure : Opening the ink cartridge access door

  2. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.

  3. Push in on the front of one of the ink cartridges to release it, and then pull the ink cartridge toward you to remove it.

Figure : Removing the ink cartridge

    Removing the ink cartridge
  4. Repeat these steps for the other ink cartridges.

  5. Close the ink cartridge access door.

Figure : Closing the ink cartridge access door

Image: Close the ink cartridge access door
  6. Check the control panel display.

    • If the printer displays an Ink System Failure message on the control panel, skip to the step to Update the printer firmware.

    • If the message has changed to Replace the, or Ink Cartridge, continue to the next step.

Step 2: Clean the ink cartridges, and then check the error message

Cleaning the ink cartridge contacts, and then reinstalling the ink cartridges one at a time can help determine if a specific ink cartridge is causing the error message.

  1. Gather the following materials:

    • A clean, lint-free cloth or a clean, dry cotton swab

    • Distilled or bottled water

         CAUTION:

Do not use tap water because it might contain contaminants that can damage the printhead.

  2. Lightly dampen a clean, lint-free cloth with bottled or distilled water.

  3. Gently wipe the copper-colored contact on one of the ink cartridges.

Figure : Example of copper-colored contact

    Example of copper-colored contact
  4. Wipe the contact with a dry, lint-free cloth before proceeding to the next step.

  5. Repeat these steps for the three remaining ink cartridges.

  6. Carefully reinsert each of the ink cartridges into its slot, and then push the ink cartridge down and forward until it clicks into place.

Figure : Reinserting the ink cartridge

    Reinserting the ink cartridge
  7. Make sure each colored dot on the ink cartridge label matches the colored dot on the print carriage.

Figure : Matching the colored dot on the print carriage

Matching the colored dot on the print carriage
  8. Close the ink cartridge access door.

  9. Check the printer control panel to see if the error message persists.

    • If there is no error message, you can stop troubleshooting.

    • If the message is to Replace the, or Ink Cartridge, remove the specified ink cartridge(s) and clean the copper-colored contact again, and then reinsert the ink cartridge(s).

    • If the Ink System Failure message persists, continue to the next step.

Step 3: Update the printer firmware

The error might occur if the printer firmware is outdated. Download the firmware update from the HP website, and then install it on your printer.

   NOTE:

The HP printer must be connected to a wired (Ethernet) or wireless network with an active Internet connection to receive updates.

  1. From the home screen on the printer control panel, touch the HP ePrint icon .

  2. Wait for the printer to connect to the HP ePrint server.

When the printer connects to the server, the HP ePrint status displays.

  3. Touch Settings on the bottom left corner of the screen.

  4. Touch Printer Update, and then touch Check for Update Now.

       NOTE:

Check for updates every week to make sure you are getting the most out of your HP printer.

If the error message persists, continue to the next step.

Step 4: Clean the printhead with an automated tool

The printhead could be clogged, and you might need to clean the printhead several times. Use an automated tool from the printer control panel to clean the printhead.

  1. Load unused, plain white paper into the input tray.

  2. On the printer control panel, touch the Right Arrow () to display additional options.

  3. Touch Setup (), touch Tools, and then touch Clean Printhead.

  4. Wait until the printhead cleaning sequence completes and the report prints.

If the error message persists, continue to the next step.

Step 5: Remove the printhead

If there is paper obstructing the printhead or if the printhead is not seated correctly, it might cause an error message. Turn on the printer, and then remove the printhead.

  1. Press the Power button to turn on the printer, if it is not already on. Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

  2. Place your fingers into the slot on the left side of the printer, and then pull to open the cartridge access door. Allow the carriage to move to the cartridge access area, and the carriage stops moving.

Figure : The slot on the side of the printer

Image: The slot on the side of the printer.
  3. Disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer. Unplugging the printer prevents the carriage from moving.

       WARNING:

You must disconnect the power cord before reaching inside the printer to avoid risk of injuries or electric shock.

  4. Lift the carriage latch.

Figure : Lift the carriage latch

    Image: Lift the carriage latch.
  5. Grasp the sides of the printhead, gently lift and remove the printhead from the carriage.

       NOTE:

Do not remove the cartridges from the printhead. You can safely remove the printhead with all of the cartridges inserted.

    Figure : Remove the printhead

       CAUTION:

The nozzle area on the bottom of the printhead is fragile! Make sure that the bottom of the printhead does not bump or rub on the printer. Do not touch the nozzles or electrical contacts. Touching these areas can cause electrical failures or print quality problems.

Figure : Nozzles and electrical contacts

    1. Nozzles

    2. Electrical contacts

  6. Place the printhead assembly (with the cartridges still installed) upside down on a clean sheet of paper.

       CAUTION:

Do not leave the printhead assembly outside of the printer for an extended period. Doing so can result in damage to the printhead or the printer.

Figure : Printhead upside down on a clean sheet of paper

Image: Printhead upside down on a clean sheet of paper.

Step 6: Inspect the carriage path

Use a flashlight to check and remove torn pieces of paper that might remain inside the printer. If any torn pieces of paper remain inside the printer, errors are likely to occur.

Figure : Example of paper jammed in the carriage path

Step 7: Reinsert the printhead

Reinstall the printhead, and then check for the error message.

  1. Grasp the sides of the printhead and turn it right side up with the nozzles facing down and the electrical contacts facing away from you.

  2. On the front of the printer, insert the printhead into the carriage, ensuring that the electrical contacts face the inside of the printer. As you guide the printhead into the carriage, it lowers into the carriage as it seats.

       CAUTION:

The nozzle area on the bottom of the printhead is fragile! Make sure that the bottom of the printhead does not bump or rub on the printer. Do not touch the nozzles or electrical contacts. Touching these areas can cause electrical failures or print quality problems.

  6. Close the cartridge access door.

  7. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.

  8. If the printer does not turn on by itself, press the Power button to turn it on.

       NOTE:

The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.

  9. Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

If the error message persists, continue to the next step.

Step 8: Reseat the printhead up to three times

Sometimes error messages persist after inserting the printhead. To clear any error messages, reseat the printhead up to three times.

   NOTE:

You do not need to remove the printhead from the carriage.

  1. Slip your fingers into the slot on the left side of the printer, and then pull forward to open the cartridge access door. The carriage moves to the left side of the printer. Wait until the carriage is idle and silent before proceeding.

An update to this post - I was able to install the firmware update and it is now current...R1733A patch has been applied...however I still get the 'non-HP ink' message and the same error causes constant rebooting.

Any help would be appreciated!  Thanks!
