HP Officejet Pro 8600 N911g
macOS 10.13 High Sierra

I have an HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus N911g (CM750A) and the HP support website tells me that there is a critical security firmware update (v1829A).  The EWS (embedded web server) tells me that my printer is at firmware release CLP1CN1304AR.

I downloaded the update (OJP8600_N911g-n_1829A.dmg) and when I run it, I get the message that "This firmware updater does not contain upgrades for your device".

This is very frustrating because there appears to be no online update facility available from the printer or EWS and this is definitely the correct update version for my model of printer.

Welcome to HP Forums. This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips to your technical queries.

We can use the printer control panel display to update the printer firmware, let's try these steps:

1) Make sure this printer is plugged into a direct wall, not a surge protector

2) Remove all of your ink cartridges from the printer and close the door

3) Remove the power cord from the back of the printer (Do no press the power button)

4) Plug the power cord back into the printer

5) Wait for the printer to turn on completely, then install the ink cartridges.

6.) On the printer control panel, touch ePrint icon or button ( or ), touch Settings, and then touch Product Updates.

7.) Touch Check for Product Update, and then follow the instructions on the display

Let me know how it goes!

Hello.  Thanks. I managed to get this to work by doing a factory restore of the printer and then running the firmware updater.  The firmware has now updated but I have a new issue which is that the Network Folder Setup no longer works.  I have a network share on an Apple Time Capsule which the printer has been using for many years without issue.  I can access this share from a PC or a Macbook on the newtork without issue.  When I try to point Network Folder Setup to this share, I get an error.  I have tried a factory restore and setting this up again but I always get the same eror.  I see from the forums that this appears to be a problem others are having since the firmware update.

Checking the network folder settings, providing sufficient permissions and then re-configuring scan to network may resolve the issue:

1.) Please makesure that a Folder is created on the server.

2.) Make sure the folder has been shared and that users can both read and write to the folder. If you are unsure, right click on the Folder and select Get info. Then make sure that both read and write permissions are enabled.

3.) Make sure you have enabled SMB sharing. If you are unsure, you may use the steps available here to enable SMB sharing.

4.) On your Mac, click Finder, click Applications.

5.) Open Hewlett-Packard folder, Open HP Utility.

6.) Click Scan to Network Folder under the Scan Settings section, and then follow the onscreen instructions.

7.) During the Scan to Network folder setup, the network share folder should be specified in this format:

\\machinename.domain.yourcorpname.net\scantonetworkfoldername\

8.) User name should be specific in the format:

Domain\username

Let me know if you have any questions.
